With thoughts of summiting Mount Taranaki in the back of out heads we got an early start to the day again. The drive to the mountain proved to us we would not be able to summit, as it was covered in clouds (which means lots of rain and possibly more snow). That didn’t stop us from getting out on the trails though, with our first stops Wilkies Pools and Dawson Falls. The pools were first where we were able to take a trail that lead right to the falls as well. The was just a few hours and then off to the beach! The Three Sisters are a rock formation pictured above along with Elephant Rock which sits next to them. Unfortunately the trunk eroded a few years back so it doesn’t entirely look like an elephant anymore, but still a magnificent rock structure off the Tongaporutu coastline. Ended the day with a swim in the surprisingly warm waters of the Tasman Sea and then started the drive back to Auckland. The last picture is our leftover dinner in the gas station parking lot which may have been the most wholesome part of the trip š
