Saturday morning Georgia, Vic, Andy and I left Auckland to begin our mid semester break traveling around the South Island of New Zealand for a week! We flew out of Auckland to Christchurch then hired a car for our travels. We got lunch in Christchurch and proceeded to drive all the way down to Lake Poaka and camp there for the night. Sunday was our first hike around Mt. Cook in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. On our drive there (I finally remembered my license so I drove on the left for the first time) we stopped at Lake Pukaki. Finding out that trail that we had planned was closed for the season due to a recent storm, we ended up doing the Sealy Tarns Track which was a spectacular view! Some beautiful tarns at the top and views of the surrounding peaks including Mt. Cook. The perfect place to eat cheese and crackers!! Headed back down and ended in about 3 hours to start our drive out to Queenstown. Made it to the hostel around 7 and that was day 2!!
