MY AUNT CAME TO VISIT!! What a wonderful treat for my next week of mid semester break! I arrived back to Auckland late Sunday and we started the week with breakfast on Parnell. Delicious food at a cute café called Winona Forever. Then off to the Sky Tower downtown with some lovely views of the city and greater Auckland. After, we headed to the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki for a nice walk around the gallery on a rainy afternoon. Saw some beautiful art pieces featuring two groups of NZ women: The Guerrilla Girls and the Pacific Sisters who are both feminist activists which is reflected in their artwork promoting women in the arts. Very empowering.
Later on in the week we also got to check out the War Memorial Museum in Parnell which I had been meaning to do for quite some time. It was actually really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot, learning more about significant events in history such as the Holocaust, World War I and II and how NZ was created through the volcanic activity. Also saw my first Kiwi, unfortunately it was stuffed but still so cool!
